Martial
Arts is not a whole lot different than yoga in the
sense that it is a complete mind and body practice. You can
think of it as two sides of the same coin, and they actually
share historical lineage.
While combat training can be hard on your body, Martial
Arts has an element of perception- response training that
most other practices lack. There is a certain power in knowing
you can handle whatever is thrown at you.
I started Okinawan Karate in 1988, competing in AAU
and Junior Olympic tournaments throughout High School. I studied
Tae Kwon Do in college, and then began training in Jun Fan/Jeet
Kune Do when I moved to LA in 1997.
I received my JKD instructorship from Sifu
Ray Copeland in 2000, and started teaching soon thereafter.
Ray is a high senior student of Dan Inosanto, the only man
ever certified directly by Bruce Lee.
Since then I have had the opportunity to travel through
Southeast Asia and study a few different systems of Martial
Arts in their mother countries. I generally teach a modernized,
western kickboxing-type style geared toward fitness and conditioning. |
